Week 1

Time flies by fast. Can't believe I've been back in the States a week already.
I got back home (to East Houghton Ave.) on Saturday, sat down, and called Henna immediately.
The house looks exactly the same as it did on May when we left and yet it's so different. Soon my new housemates will arrive and everything starts all over again. Which is definitely not a bad thing. I get to experience the same excitement again that I had when I first got to this little town. The excitement of all the new here.

So, all of my three flights went surprisingly well and fast. This time I only had 13hours of traveling instead of 24+ hours (which is the time I usually have had). I flew to Minneapolis thru Oslo (where I probably spent a fortune for a bottle of water and a sandwich since I didn't have ANY idea how much Norwegian krone is compared to euros) and Reykjavik (where I had to go thru this extra security check to get to my gate. Just wondering how come I never win on lottery when I have such a good luck to get myself selected for these kinds of extra stuff? Needless to say, something like this happens every time I travel.).

I was kind of worried to travel with two passports. I needed to renew the passport since I am probably not going back to Finland before the current one expires. I knew that I'd be able to travel with two passports since my visa is in my (now) old one, but you'll never know what happens when you're entering to the US. So far I have survived with just a few questions about school etc. but I've heard some people have had pretty rough time answering all kinds of questions. With my luck I was pretty convinced that now with two passports I would face the same. Fortunately I was wrong. Got thru the passport/visa check, and got my luggage in a record time. I actually had to wait for Ian to show up even though I was pretty sure it would have been the other way around.

We stayed in Minneapolis until the next morning and began the drive back home. We decided to spend a night in Duluth so we wouldn't have to make the whole drive during one day (it's over 7 hours of driving after all). On Thursday we headed to Houghton. On our way we stopped at Chequamegon Books in Washburn. Ian introduced me to this great little bookstore in March when we were on our way to Minneapolis for the spring break. Again, we did no leave the store empty handed.

So, so far so good. Houghton feels pretty empty still since most of the students are not back yet. It's not that I would complain about that. It feels nice actually. When the semester starts it's going to be a fuss anyway.
